CHAPTER 110
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
January 10, 2007

President Gary Graham called the meeting to order at 7:06PM.

All officers were present.

Secretary Tom Hubbuch read the minutes from the Dec. 2006 meeting which were approved.

Treasurer and Membership Chairman Berry Bannon reminded members to pay their dues for 2007; the cost is $15.00. He has an update sheet that makes it easier to check members’ status. He reported income of $201.00 from dues and calendars and expense of $227.00 for Chapter insurance and renewal, leaving a treasure of 2-$500 CDs, $2116.33 in savings, $608.53 in checking and $30.00 petty cash. The report was accepted as read.

Greeting Chairman Don Tucker reported 24 members and three guests; John Ebert, Don McLaughlin and Gerald Clayton.

Committee Reports:

Young Eagles - No report

Rough River Fly-in - Berry reported that he acquired two models for the raffle, and he is looking for a guest speaker for the Sat. night banquet. Robert Wilmouth will donate a T-shirt as another prize.

Web Page & E-mail - Gary was busy last month and could not update the web page, but will get caught up in the next few days. He is open for contributions from members.

Bowman Eagles - Bob Allen said the club now has room for seven additional members, the Stinson is sold, awaiting pick-up, and the Champ was lost in an accident. A replacement aircraft is being sought.

Newsletter - Gary noted that the Chapter newsletter has been dormant for several months, and he has not been able to talk with Bruce Edsten, the Newsletter Editor. He asked the membership to consider if the newsletter is required or wanted, considering several things:

- He has been e-mailing meeting notices and any news fairly successfully
- Bruce has historically asked for member article contributions but has had low response, which places a larger burden on Bruce
- The newsletter has been the Chapter’s largest expense

He suggested that the publication could be incorporated into the web site.

Gary will discuss with Bruce and report back at the next meeting for a possible decision.

The mention of e-mail caused some buzzing in the room. Several members apparently do not receive graphics that are part of e-mails sent by Gary, but the majority has no consistent problem. After discussing how Gary might change his methods, it was concluded that the individual members’ problems should be solved first. Gary again explained that troublesome e-mails can be returned to him and he and Alan Fox would try to troubleshoot.

Chapter Board - Gary, Howard Edwards, Charlie Gokey, Tom Hubbuch and Joy Jeffries met earlier in the evening to discuss and plan meeting programs. A tentative list was developed through June. Gary asked that all members keep their eyes open for potential subjects and speakers – and this includes any member who wants to make their own presentation some time.

Old Business:

A Chapter Service Award was presented to Jack Kuhns for serving as a Flight Advisor.

New Business:

There will be no BUG event in Lexington this year, due to a low commitment from their members to help. However, the Scottsburg Airport will spearhead a similar effort at IVY Tech. in March.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 PM.

Following the business meeting, Mr. Mark Markwell of Aircraft Specialists, Inc. presented a talk with a slideshow showing the highlights of propeller inspection and overhaul procedures. Both McCauley and Hartzell props, both fixed and adjustable pitch, were illustrated at various stages in the process. A lot of hand labor is involved and some methods seemed surprisingly brutal for these precision parts. For example, the torqueing of the nut to the blade of a threaded McCauley prop requires a wrench with about a ten foot handle, with at least one big guy pulling on it!
