President Gary Graham called the meeting to order at 7:34 PM.
Vice-president Joy Jeffries was present.
Secretary Tom Hubbuch read the minutes from last month, which were accepted as read.
Treasurer Berry Bannon reported $2086.94 in the savings account, $680.01 in checking, two $500 CDs, and $30.00 in petty cash.
Income was $233.00; $295.00 was paid out from checking, including $140.00 for calendars.
Greeting Chairman Don Tucker reported 20 members, including brand new member Stacy Lynn.
Committee Reports:
Young Eagles - No Report.
Rough River – Nothing new.
Newsletter – No Report.
Bowman Eagles - B.E. President Steve Koch reported the active membership is full at 60, and a new “inactive/non-flying” class will be
introduced, with membership at $30/month. All three planes are flying, and the Stinson is for sale, with intentions to eventually replace it with another two-place aircraft.
Membership – Howard Edwards asked for information, articles and pictures of members’ aviation related backgrounds to be used on the
Chapter’s web page “bio” section.
Events:
Tom Hubbuch reported that Berry Bannon, Robert Wilmoth and Bruce Edsten attended the BUG Safety Seminar last month at Lexington. There were presentations about carb. ice, the new HKS 60 HP engine, safety development of the CGS Hawk, current status of Sport Pilot and Light Sport Aircraft, and many raffle drawings, all moderated by Frank Beagle, the voice of the Oshkosh Ultralight flying activities.
Gary Graham reminded the membership of the upcoming Sun-N-Fun Fly-in, and hoped that Bruce would be attending and again document the activities with his excellent pictures.
Old Business:
Gary made a presentation of a “virtual” certificate of appreciation to Alan Fox for his participation in the
Chapter’s web site. Gary will find the real certificate and deliver it to Alan.
Gary reported that Ky. Governor Fletcher does not support the idea of restricted airspace over Frankfort, and the idea is all but dead.
The next meeting, March 8th, is the Fish Dinner. Gary asked for a show of hands of those planning to attend. Eating will start at 6:30 PM,
and the cost is projected to be $6.50 per person. After the dinner and a brief business meeting, Matt Turino will give a presentation
on, "Flying in Switzerland."
President Gary put out the idea for a Chapter Fly-out to be held in early summer this year. He said that several pilots with planes had
previously indicated support for this. One suggestion for a destination was Hagerstown, In., with a nice grass strip, located NE of
Indianapolis.
New Business:
Gary made available several brochures that he received related to Sport Pilot and LSA.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:59 PM.
The post-meeting program was a video – Henry Ford’s Aviation Ventures 1924 – 1936, which showed the Ford Field at Dearborn, Mi.
and Ford’s successful and not-so-successful attempts to design and produce single and tri-engined aircraft.
