President Gary Graham called the meeting to order at 7:48PM, with back-up from V.P. Joy Jeffries.
Treasurer Berry Bannon reported income over the past month was $100; savings included two $500 CDs, and and
a balance of$2066.28; checking balance was $388.11; petty cash totaled $29.00. The report was approved.
Berry also gave an overview of the income/expenses of the past year. Expenses were $884.47, income totaled $960.00,
including about $750 from dues and $210 from calendar sales. He made a point that the Chapter is just holding its own.
Greeting Chairman Tom Mitchell reported 27 members and 1 guest were present.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Rough River Sport Aviation Weekend - Berry Bannon reported that the committee will start planning for the 2005
fly-in next month, starting with submitting insurance coverage requests and coordinating information with the other Ky. chapters.
Web Page - Gary Graham reported talking with Alan Fox and obtained some instruction and access to the Chapter web page.
He can now make simple changes, has updated several pages, and hopes to “turn the site around”. He intends to include
each months minutes, and invites input. One suggestion was to put a Chapter membership application on the site.
Roster – Roster Keeper Tom Hubbuch did not get the Roster Info. Sheets in with the Feb. newsletter, and will work to get them ready
for the April newsletter.
Newsletter – Gary Graham advised that the newsletter costs are high, and suggested some savings could be had by sending
the newsletter by e-mail. Most of the members attending indicated support.
Furthering the discussion, the roster sheet was circulated to add e-mail addresses. Gary Graham will talk with newsletter editor
Bruce Edsten about the possibility of sending the newsletter by e-mail.
Bowman Eagles – Howard Edwards reported the club now has 56 members, and when 60 is reached, a four place Stinson may
be added to the fleet.
Picnic – Co-chairmen Berry Bannon and Tom Hubbuch suggested the picnic would be in June, as it was last year.
Membership – Gary Graham read the draft letter by Howard Edwards inviting prospective new members to attend the May meeting,
which would include an early social period offering soft drinks and beer, a short meeting and followed by an organized presentation
of the Sun-n-Fun fly-in. Howard estimated the cost would be about $100.00, and moved that this plan be adopted. After some
discussion, the motion was approved.
Friends of Bowman – Don Jeffries reported that an open meeting with Skip would be held on 2/22. He reported that it is “planned”
that Bowman will not be profitable, since a portion of any profit would have to be paid to the airlines using Standiford. He said that
issues like the increase in T hangar rents were occurring because of supply & demand reasons.
Events – Gary Graham reported that Howard Edwards, Tom Hubbuch and he attended the BUG Safety Seminar last month in Lexington.
The main subject was related to converting ultralights to the Light Sport Aircraft category.
OLD BUSINESS
NEW BUSINESS
The program following the meeting was “Name that Plane”, coordinated by Berry Bannon. Members were each given a sheet listing
over 50 aircraft, and asked to match the names to models on a table. Howard Edwards edged out Charlie Gokey by one point to win
the contest. Wallace Hardin placed third. Prizes included a certificate for aircraft project logging software, and EAA calendars with
either a $5 or $10 bill attached.
Secretary Tom Hubbuch read the minutes from the January meeting, which were approved.
Young Eagles - Chairman Jim Lasch handed out credits to pilots that had flown
Y.E.s that can be used to help fund an Air Academy student.
Other discussion suggested that a raffle be organized to generate some money. Gary Graham will look into a suitable prize.
It was voted to not hold the traditional March Fish Dinner, partly due to the fact that this usually was a monetary loss for the Chapter,
and canceling it would be a way to offset the costs of the membership drive efforts.
Gary Graham presented a certificate and pin to Jack Kuhns for his service as a flight advisor during 2004.
The deadline for comments related to the proposed MOA in southern Indiana has been extended to the end of Feb. There is some
possibility that the floor may be raised from 500’ to 3000’.
It was reported that a new sign at the entrance road lists the businesses on the field, but did not include Chapter 110.
The EAA is conducting an effort to update the AB-DAR database, and is seeking comments from anyone who has utilized their
services.
There is an effort under way to build a new GA airport in Shelby County. The County Judge has appointed a 12-person committee to
look into it. A survey by the local paper shows 75% of the 1100 respondents to date to be in favor.
