President Gary Graham called the meeting to order at 7:08PM.
All officers were present.
Secretary Tom Hubbuch read the minutes from the Jan. 2007 meeting which were approved.
Treasurer and Membership Chairman Berry Bannon reminded members to pay their dues for 2007.
He reported no new income or expense since the last meeting. The Chapter has 2-$500 CDs, $2116.33 in savings, $879.70 in checking and $30.00 petty cash.
The report was accepted as read.
Greeting Chairman Don Tucker reported 19 members and one guest. He thanked Brenda Hubbuch for sending in the Brownies to snack on during the end-of-meeting program.
Committee Reports:
Young Eagles - No report
Rough River Fly-in - Berry explained the recent decision of the Ky. State Parks to remove fuel sales from the three parks with airports, which includes Rough River. He indicated concern that this decision could have a negative effect on the annual fly-in. Berry will send a letter to the Parks director from the Rough River Committee and Secretary Tom Hubbuch will send a letter from the Chapter expressing regret for that decision.
Web Page & E-mail - No Report
Bowman Eagles - Jim Nolan reported the club has made an offer for a Citabria in Georgia. The club has room for six members.
Newsletter - Gary reported that he talked w/ Bruce Edsten, who said he wants to continue the newsletter. Gary suggested reducing it to a quarterly issue or for special events. Bruce agreed a quarterly publication may be appropriate, but needs some contributions from others. He is considering an electronic version, rather than the traditional paper mailed copy. But, at least a post card will be sent for next month’s fish dinner meeting.
Old Business:
Fish Dinner- The March meeting will be preceded by the annual fish dinner. The cost will be $6.50, with eating starting at 6:30 PM. A short meeting will follow, leading into the featured program by Charles Arrington about wartime Standiford Field.
Sun-N-Fun- Three members indicated their plans to attend this year. Gary asked those that go to make an effort to take pictures and bring back stories to share with those who can’t make it.
New Business:
Dave Bingman is looking for partners to purchase a nice Grumman American AA-1 w/ a fresh 0-290 engine and other good modifications.
Gary Graham is considering taking in a partner with him on his Light Sport Titan Tornado. He said it just is not getting flown enough.
Jim Lasch reported that he has arranged for our Chapter to host the EAA Ford Trimotor on Aug. 23 – 27 at Bowman. He said Stacy Linn will head up PR, and asked if anyone had connections with the local Ford plants. He said there may be opportunities for those who help to hitch a ride to the next destination, as was the case with the B-17 last summer.
Charlie Gokey said he found a possible source for back-up program videos in the Historical Aviation catalog.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:48 PM.
The program following the meeting was a showing of the documentary film “16 Right”, very successfully presented using the Chapter’s new video player and projector. It is the story of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Airport, now called Van Nuys Airport, and how, as is almost always the case, population encroached upon the isolated, local airport as it became successful, and how efforts had to be made to overcome criticism and prove the airport’s right to exist. Unlike the stories of many airports in the Southern California area and the country, this one has been a success story.
