President Gary Graham called the meeting to order at 7:39PM.
Vice-president Joy Jeffries was on special assignment at Sun-N-Fun.
Gary announced that due to a misunderstanding of presentation equipment requirements, that the Garmin G1000 presentation, planned
to follow the meeting, would not be made, and would be rescheduled for a later meeting.
Secretary Tom Hubbuch read the minutes from last month, which were accepted.
Treasurer Berry Bannon was away on a cruise and there was no Treasurer’s report.
Tom Mitchell reported 22 members and two guests in attendance. The guests were officers from Chapter 1042 in New Albany.
Young Eagles chairman Jim Lasch reminded us that the Young Eagles flight day is to be held on May 14 at the Old Bowman Terminal.
He expects 50 Explorer Scouts from Henry County. Jim will confirm with Alan Fox. Our Chapter will not hold a YE Day on June 11, which
is the National YE Day.
There was no Rough River report.
Gary Graham continues to build the Chapter Web Page and requests information, articles and pictures from the members.
Tom Hubbuch reported that he sent out about 65 individualized roster information sheets with the April Newsletter. To date, only eight
have been returned. Tom reminded all members to return some kind of answer to him – either make a correction or addition, or say the
info. is OK as is.
Gary stated that he is working on making the Newsletter electronic to reduce mailing costs, which are expected to increase.
Howard Edwards reported that the Bowman Eagles Flying Club is now at capacity with 60 members, and four on the waiting list. They
are trying to get the maximum number of members increased to 65. A third aircraft, probably a Stinson, is being searched for. Howard
showed the new logo, which includes the motto of “We drag our tails”.
The date for the Picnic was discussed, and Sunday, June 12 at Willow Island seemed to be the preference. Tom Hubbuch will begin
making the arrangements.
Jim Nolan reported that the Friends of Bowman are promoting that Greg Compton, a pilot and Bowman user, be appointed by Mayor
Abramson to the RAA Board.
Howard Edwards reported on the latest of the Membership Drive. He is ready to mail Newsletters with invitations to about 160 EAA
National members in the local area, and will deliver another 160 to the T hangars. The May meeting will start at 6:30 PM with a social
hour, featuring refreshments provided by the Chapter. The winner of the Waco ride, donated by Steve Koch and Kurt Rausch, will be
drawn. And, a door prize, homemade wine by Dave Derrick, will be awarded at the end of the meeting.
Events – Chapter 1165 in Russelville, is planning a trip to the National Air and Space Museum in the fall, and invites any interested persons to join them.
Gary Graham suggested that our Chapter make plans to attend the WWI Dawn Patrol gathering Sept 30 – Oct 1 at the Wright Patterson
Air Force Museum. This is held each two years and features authentic and replica WWI aircraft, flying activities, a military encampment,
displays and vintage automobiles on the front lawn of the Museum.
Old Business:
- The Indiana MOAs are still being debated. Some concessions have been incorporated, including reducing the size and raising the
altitude of the floor.
- A certificate for KitLog Pro is available to anyone who is building or plans to build a project.
New Business:
- Gary Graham has a DVD from Headquarters featuring highlights of past EAA International Fly-in and Conventions, plus events to look
forward to at the 2005 Airventure. George Willenbrock will make some copies for members to borrow.
- There is a web site called X-C Pilot which provides airport info. and weather.
- Charlie Gokey advised that another useful site is AWOS.com, which provides the telephone numbers of AWOS info.
- Tom Mitchell reported a good newspaper article on the Young Eagles program. Unfortunately, it was not of our Chapter’s program, but
still good publicity.
- David Cooper reported that the Aero Club is holding a Spring membership drive - $25 will buy membership through the rest of 2005.
- The Door Prize, a battery powered, lighted pepper mill, was won by Richard Heimerdinger.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:27 PM.
Frank Allen from Aero-Tech was available to answer questions about glass cockpits after the meeting.
