President Gary Graham called the meeting to order at 7:33 PM.
All officers were present.
The secretary’s report was read and accepted.
Treasurer Berry Bannon reported no income. He paid the Ky. incorporation fee of $4.00, and $2.95 for the checking account service charge. This left $2092.92 in the savings account, two $500 CDs, $587.41 in the checking account, and $30.00 in petty cash. His report was accepted.
Greeting Chairman Don Tucker reported 21 members in attendance. Vintage member Arnold Seligman rejoined the Chapter, and had just purchased a KR2-S project.
Gary Graham discussed the good coverage in an article in the Courier Journal about Steve Koch and his biplane tour business.
Committee Reports:
Young Eagles - Coordinator Bob Allen reported that the YE registration form is now on the web page.
Arrangements are being made to invite a baseball league as the primary participants for the June 10 YE Day, which will be held at the Bowman Old Terminal from 9 a.m. to noon.
The YE Day being planned for young cancer patients at Grayson Co. Airport is progressing. Six to eight planes and pilots are lined up. EAA would not offer the insurance coverage requested by the hosting facility, and Bob is working on alternative insurance.
Fifty-five students at Shawnee are planned to be flown on June 29 at Bowman.
Finally, the Chapter participated in a YE event at Clark County a couple weeks ago and flew about 24 young people.
Rough River – Berry Bannon reported that a hot air balloon pilot has expressed interest in the fly-in, and Ken Jordan of Frankfort is working on a speaker for the Saturday night banquet.
Newsletter - Gary reminded the membership that we should all strive to report any news, adventures or interesting information to Bruce Edsten, the Newsletter editor. E-mail, hand written or phoned-in messages are acceptable.
Picnic – Gary Graham reported that he received a good number of responses from members that prefer the picnics to be held on Sundays, as is traditional.
Tom Hubbuch reported that Errol Hand of Willow Island could not be reached to obtain permission for a picnic there. Sean Honaker at Bardstown will
allow the use of his FBO building. The membership approved this location, and Tom Hubbuch will set it up. Also, since the picnic will be
held before the next meeting, Gary Graham will send periodic reminder e-mails to the membership. Everyone who is driving should bring chairs, a table if available,
and everyone should try to bring a dish to share with others. The Chapter will provide the burgers, dogs, soft drinks, as usual.
Bowman Eagles - Jim Nolan reported that the club has room for three or four new members.
Events:
FAA Safety Seminar - Gary suggested that the next seminar will be held on Thursday, May 18, at the Aero Club, and the subject will be Communications and Traffic Pattern etiquette.
Old Business:
Gary reported that his survey on interest of organized fly-outs resulted in a couple responses. Discussion followed, including the realization that the Chapter has fewer aircraft owners.
A suggestion was made to organize a fly-out some Saturday morning, initially meeting at the Aero Club at 8 a.m., then flying to Salem and then on to Seymour to visit the museum there. Howard Edwards agreed to attempt to organize this, but thought that May 20 would allow too little time to prepare.
Jim Lasch agreed to try and coordinate future fly-outs.
Howard Edwards reported that he and Joy Jeffries have lined up about 20 aircraft to visit at the June 14 meeting. He plans a “shotgun” start of groups of four to five persons, beginning at 7 p.m.
New Business:
Bob Allen questioned why the Chapter meetings start at 7:30 p.m., considering that all other aviation related meetings start at 7:00 p.m., and if the Chapter meetings start could be changed to 7:00 p.m. The membership voted to change the start time to 7:00 p.m., starting next month through December - at that time a decision will be made as to making it permanent. Gary will edit the web page and check to see if EAA Headquarters needs the information, and Bruce will modify the Newsletter header.
Stacy Linn suggested that the Chapter support the Wings Weekend. Bruce agreed that he would represent the Chapter at the next meeting, planned for Thursday, May 11, and bring back the related information. It is expected that the Chapter may set up an information booth, similar to what was done at the Bowman Air Fair a couple years ago.
Bob Allen clarified some rumors about AeroTec. He said that it appears that AeroTec is actually increasing its activities and business, not decreasing it.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:33 PM.
The program was a slide show by Bruce Edsten illustrating some of the work he accomplished on his business trip to Sun-n-Fun in Florida last month. The pictures were fantastic, as usual.
