CHAPTER 110
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
June 13, 2007

President Gary Graham called the meeting to order at 7:10PM.

All officers were present.

Secretary Tom Hubbuch read the minutes from the May 2007 meeting, which were approved.

Treasurer Berry Bannon reported that he spent $4.00 for the annual Ky. incorporation fees, and wrote a check for $111.14 to himself to cover the food that he purchased for the Spring Picnic. The Chapter has $2121.08 in savings, $778.60 in checking, $30.00 in petty cash, and two $500.00 CDs. About 1/3 of the members are late in paying their dues. His report was accepted.

Jim Nolan, filling in for Greeting Chairman Don Tucker, reported 18 members and three guests in attendance.

Committee Reports:

Young Eagles - Gary Graham reported that Bob Allen has set dates for three Y.E. events: June 22, 29 and July 28.

Rough River Fly-in - Gary recommended that members try to make the fly-in. Berry added that if you are trying to make reservations for a room, to be sure to mention EAA Ky. Sport Aviation so the Fly-in can be credited and meet the required 20 room commitment to obtain the use of the banquet rooms and a free room for the guest speaker. He said that 12 rooms and three cottages are now booked. Tom Hubbuch reported that he has applied for the fly-in insurance, but has not received a response yet. The fly-in has been posted on Fly-ins.com and will be set up on OpenAirNet.com (AKA FunPlacestoFly.com), per a member suggestion. The fly-in is scheduled for Sept. 7, 8 & 9.

Spring Picnic - The picnic was held on June 10 at Freeman Field and was a great success with an estimated 60 guests attending, bringing a variety of covered dishes to share. Represented by Larry and Pat Bothe, the Freeman Field Flying Association opened their pilot’s lounge and facilities for our use, and the Freeman Army Airfield Museum was open and staffed for guided tours. Tim O’Connor opened his workshop to allow viewing of his two P-26 Peashooter projects. The membership agreed that the Chapter donate $100.00 to the Museum, and Tom Hubbuch will write letters of appreciation to each organization. Thanks were also extended to Howard Edwards, Bruce Edsten and Gary Graham for their efforts in publicizing the event, and to Berry Bannon and Tom Hubbuch for acquiring the meat, drinks and grill. It was suggested that the Fall Picnic be held at Bardstown and arrangements made with the Louisville Soaring Club to provide introductory sailplane rides.

Ford Trimotor- Stacie Linn is now the Coordinator of this event. She has talked with LEA, which will provide support, including hangar space and possibly some fuel. She is planning to talk with UPS, Ford Motor Co., Ehrlers and others for sponsorship. Robert Wilmuth has received sponsorship for a full flight from the Regional Airport Authority. Dave Bingman offered to provide printing services. Another suggestion was to work on radio and newspaper coverage. Stacie said she plans to obtain orange safety vests, so the previously proposed orange T-shirts may not be needed. The event is scheduled for August 24 – 26.

Old Business:

Roster Gary Graham proposed sending e-mails to each member asking for roster information, which will be used to assemble a more recent listing.

New Business:

None

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.

Following the meeting, Bob Perkins, of Cardinal Marketing, presented a slide show, reviewing the current standing of the Sport Pilot certificate and Light Sport Airplanes. He said interest is growing; there have been about 2000 new certificates issued, and there are over 50 suitable aircraft that have been certified as Light Sport. He gave a rundown of several of these aircraft, many of which he had flying experience in. He is available to help sort out options for anyone interested, and can be reached at 502-643-5823.
