CHAPTER 110
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
August 9, 2006

President Gary Graham called the meeting to order at 7:16PM.

All officers were present.

There were no minutes for July because the July meeting consisted of a visit to Shawnee High School’s Aviation Program, and no business meeting was held.

Treasurer Berry Bannon presented a summary of the last two months, including two $500 CDs, $2092.92 in savings, $1012.92 in checking and $30.00 in petty cash. He received donations of $322.00 from the Organization of Black Airline Pilots for our sponsoring of a Young Eagles Day on June 30 for the Shawnee Aviation Camp. Secretary Tom Hubbuch will send a thank-you letter to OBAP. The report was accepted.

Don Tucker presented the meeting sign-in sheet, which showed 30 members and one guest in attendance, Marilyn Rhoads.

Committee Reports:

Young Eagles - Chairman Bob Allen reported on the successful YE Day for Camp Quality at Grayson County on August 1. Pilots of eight aircraft flew 54 young campers and a number of the camp counselors. Bob thanked all who participated, including the ground crew, sign-in crew, computer certificate printer and pilots. Some discussion followed on plans for next year questioning if the flights should be part of the EAA YE program. The main concern was that there was some delay due to the handling of the paperwork required, but it was considered a benefit that EAA provides liability insurance for the pilots and ground crews, and that EAA does follow up by sending the new Young Eagles some information by mail. Bob concluded that next year’s Camp Quality flights would be an EAA Young Eagles event. The next YE Day is tentatively planned for Oct. 7.

Gary Katz, representing the CAP, asked for pilots to make their aircraft available on Monday, 8/14 for CAP Cadets pre-flight instruction.

Rough River – Berry Bannon reminded the members of the Ky. Sport Aviation Weekend scheduled for Sept 8, 9 & 10 at Rough River State Park. He said rooms are being held for the event and are still available.

Picnic - There was discussion of canceling this Fall’s picnic due to very busy months of Sept. and Oct. However, the membership voted to hold the picnic on Oct. 15, preferably at Willow Island, with Scottsburg the second choice. Tom Hubbuch will follow up. Picnic Co-chairman Berry Bannon will possibly not be able to make this picnic, and the membership was asked for a volunteer to take over his duties if required. No one specifically agreed to take his duties, but Bruce Edsten will bring extra tables and chairs.

Old Business:

Stacie reported that the Chapter visit to Shawnee High School last month was very successful. There were an estimated 20 – 25 members who participated. She invited members to contact her if any of the shop facilities, such as the paint booth, were needed for members’ projects.

New Business:

Gary Graham reported that the Chapter would host the EAA’s B-17, Aluminum Overcast on Sept 18 – 20 at Clark Co. Airport. Jim Lasch filled in some details of what is required from us, including volunteers to assist with aircraft loading, merchandise sales, and promotion and advertisement. Stacie Linn will lead the promotion effort, Hap’s has agreed to provide a discount on fuel, and Jim is working on arranging for a courtesy car and hotel rooms. Jim suggested the local vet’s organizations be advised. The cost for a flight ranges from $359 for advance tickets for EAA members, to $425 on-site tickets for non-members.

Jim Nolan, who is the Lee Bottom Fly-in Banner Coordinator, reported that he is looking for volunteers to help him up to a week prior to the fly-in scheduled for Sept 30.

Dave Cooper explained the Aero Club’s efforts to increase membership. The Club is trying to emphasize more aviation related events. Dues for the remainder of 2006 are $25, and dues for 2007 will be reduced from previous years’ dues.

Charlie Gokey reported that the new MOAs in southern Indiana are in effect, and that an e-mail was sent to all members with the information.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:09 PM.

The program following the meeting was a narrated pictorial review of the Brodhead Fly-in and Oshkosh 2006 by Bruce Edsten. As usual, his photographs were excellent.
