President Gary Graham called the meeting to order at 7:17PM.
All officers were present.
Secretary Tom Hubbuch read the short minutes from the Nov. 2007 pizza meeting, which were approved.
Treasurer Berry Bannon reported that the Rough River Fly-in was close to breaking even; $1123.00 was taken in, resulting in a small shortfall of $18.74.
The Tri-Motor cost the Chapter $2500 up front, which was covered by two generous donations. Other expenses included purchase of water and miscellaneous items that cost $45.24, and golf shirts that cost $495.24. In the end, EAA sent a check to the Chapter for $2040.00.
Berry also reported the Chapter has two $500 CDs, $2149.17 in savings, $753.82 in checking, $45.00 in petty cash, and he deposited the $2040.00 Tri-Motor check in the checking account.
Greeting Chairman Don Tucker reported 19 members and two guests in attendance.
Committee Reports:
Young Eagles - Bob Allen and Dave Derrick reported that they have recently flown a few young people.
Bowman Eagles - Gary Graham reported that the Bowman Eagles held their Christmas party and honored Jack Kuhns, naming him as the first Bowman Field Golden Eagle, and presented a plaque to him.
Old Business:
- Tri-Motor check – Berry proposed that the Chapter spend the money to procure an enclosed trailer, which could be used to store the Chapters picnic equipment, library items, etc. Further discussion suggested that the Chapter sponsor a young person for the EAA Aviation Camp, or sponsor some flight training for a seriously interested young person. A committee was formed, consisting of Berry, Wallace Hardin and Bruce Edsten to investigate the details of the trailer idea and report back in a month. Gary indicated that he would like to allow thorough discussion, and make a final decision in a few months.
New Business:
- Aero Club Donation - A motion was made and approval voted to donate $150.00 to the Aero Club as appreciation for the use of the meeting room.
- January Meeting Elimination - A suggestion was made to eliminate the January meeting due to perceived low attendance. However, it was found that this meeting was as well attended as any others, and it was decided to hold it as usual.
- Meeting Programs - Gary reminded the membership that all should be on the lookout for program ideas for next year. He has an idea for January, but none after that, and it is difficult to find new material.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:08PM.
Following the meeting Charlie Gokey presented an overview of traditional aircraft building materials, including wood, steel and aluminum. Tom Hubbuch described the basics of composite construction materials.
